Position Overview

We’re seeking a creative, emotionally intelligent Virtual Communications Assistant to support our external communication and digital outreach, event promotion, and partner engagement. This is a contract role for 20 hours per month, ideal for someone who is detail‑oriented, design‑savvy, and resourceful — with a strong work ethic and the ability to figure things out independently. We’re looking for someone who enjoys contributing steadily throughout the month (about 5 hours weekly), helping us keep communication and marketing flowing with consistency and care. The right candidate brings solid skills in digital communication and creative design, paired with adaptability, persistence, and a heart for community‑building.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Communications & Design

  • Design and schedule quarterly newsletters and e-blasts in Constant Contact (content provided)

  • Support campaigns for our Annual Luncheon, Giving Days, and other initiatives

  • Create flyers and branded images for digital and print use (Canva)

  • Provide analytics for committee and board meetings as needed

Website Support (Squarespace)

  • Maintain and update Partner Events page with local programs and happenings

  • Update program pages (e.g., book studies, meditations) and other content as needed

  • Post Compassionate Houston events, holidays, and board meetings to the calendar with brief descriptions

Social Media & Outreach

  • Collaborate with the Communications Committee to create and schedule Facebook and Instagram posts

  • Monitor engagement and provide annual analytics

  • Post selected Compassionate Houston events to public event calendars and monitor for inquiries

Additional Tasks

  • Add and manage subscribers in Constant Contact

  • Weekly phone/Zoom calls with VP Communications

What We’re Looking For

Creative & Technical Skills

  • Proficient and experienced with Canva, Constant Contact (or other mass-emailing platforms), and Squarespace

  • Knowledge of social media management tools and best practices for content scheduling and engagement

  • Skilled in content writing/editing and creative design with a solid portfolio of work

  • Strong research skills to gather relevant information quickly and accurately

  • Basic video editing is a plus

  • Familiarity with Greater Houston’s nonprofit landscape is a plus

  • Please note: This position is limited to U.S.-based applicants. Our work often involves quick turnarounds and immediate troubleshooting, which requires alignment in time zones and availability.
