Danielle Stagg

Dr. Danielle R. Stagg currently serves as the Division Chair for Speech, Communications, and American Sign Language at Houston Community College (HCC). Dr. Stagg also teaches Speech courses at the college. She earned her B.A. in Speech Communication and Radio/TV from Stephen F. Austin State University, a Master’s Degree in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations at the University of Houston, and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership at Sam Houston State University.

Dr. Stagg is a passionate educator with more than 15 years of teaching experience at the college level. She was raised by a determined and hard-working single parent who instilled the values of helping others and kindness in her two daughters.

Prior to joining HCC, Dr. Stagg worked at a local non-profit organization; her duties included completing various Human Resources, Office Management, and Public Relations assignments.

In her role as Division Chair, she is committed to developing a culture of belonging and understanding amongst faculty and students. Her goals are centered on student success, program expansion, and faculty engagement. As an educator, Dr. Stagg strives to create an engaging learning environment that encourages students to develop their communication skills with confidence.

Her dedication to students is also evident in her campus involvement. Dr. Stagg has served as an Advisor to the HCC Southwest Student Government Association since 2019. She is also an advisor for the Communications Club at the Northwest campus and Club Kindness at the Southeast campus. In 2015, Dr. Stagg received a Faculty Excellence Award at Houston Community College.

To help alleviate the financial burdens many community college student face, Dr. Stagg is committed to developing Speech courses using Open Education Resources (OER). Open Education Resources offer accessible textbooks to students at zero-cost. In 2019, Dr. Stagg was one of the recipients for the Innovation of the Year Award from the League for Innovation in Community Colleges for her OER efforts. Dr. Stagg is a member of the National Communication Association, the Texas Community College Teachers Association, and the illustrious Alpha Kapa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Dr. Stagg’s teaching philosophy is guided by kindness, compassion, and respect. When not working, she enjoys traveling, good wine and Vegan food, watching football, hiking, exercising, and spending time with family and friends.
